Verizon Attains a New High with High-Speed Internet
By Mini Swamy, TMCnet Contributor
Verizon seems unstoppable and its energy levels seem to break barriers in the field of telecommunications with unassuming ease. It has entered a new realm and high speed internet is now available at 10-15 Megabits per second to more than 4 million households and small businesses.
With the introduction of a 10-15 Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream service, consumers can download files, images and other contents considerably faster. In fact, this new Broadband tier has more than doubled the existing maximum download speed, and that is really laudable.
Shawn Strickland, Verizon's (News - Alert) vice president of consumer strategy, said that Verizon had adequately addressed consumer's need for speed. It also assured its customers that the service was backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee policy.
The new 10 to 15 Mbps speed tier is the latest addition to Verizon's existing suite of high speed internet speeds.
More than anything else, the High Speed Internet services include a dedicated connection to its customers over Verizon's copper network. This ensures that the speed remains unaltered regardless of the number of people who are online at the same times.
Amy Lind, consumer broadband research manager for the global technology market intelligence firm IDC (News - Alert), was confident that the high speed internet would attract businesses and customers who valued the affordability, reliability, and quality performance of their broadband connections.
Lind explaining the difference between cable internet and DSL-based high speed internet, quickly pointed out that the bandwidth capacity of cable internet could hardly compete with the dedicated connection of DSL-based high speed internet, where consistency of performance was not dictated by the number of users online.
Pricing for the 10 to 15 Mbps/1 Mbps service is $49.99 per month for residential customers with voice service from Verizon, and $59.99 per month for those without voice service. Small-business pricing for the new, higher speed tier begins at $89.99 per month as a stand-alone service with a two-year agreement, and $99.99 per month with no term contract. Equipment fees and other charges would be separate.
For new residential customers, bundled services of Verizon Freedom Essentials would begin at $69.99 monthly with comparable packages for SME beginning at $84.99 monthly. Details regarding the bundled services are available at the Verizon portal, and business packages are available at Verizon's small business portal.
Verizon Communications Inc. headquartered in New York, is a global leader in delivering broadband and other wireless and wireline communications services to mass market, business, government and wholesale customers.
In a related news release, Verizon Wireless is making it easier for customers to call, text or send voice messages to their friends, family and colleagues with an exclusive new product called Group Communication.
