Voiceserve Introduces 3G Mobile VoIP Application for the iPhone on Apple Store

By Patrick Barnard, Group Managing Editor, TMCnet

Remember a couple of years ago, when everyone was saying you’d never get “approved” VoIP on the iPhone – that AT&T (News - Alert) would never let it happen and that its network wouldn’t be able to support it?

Well, users who want a 3G mobile VoIP application for the iPhone (News - Alert) will be pleased to know that Voiceserve’s mobile VoIP application – which up until now was only available as a voice over WiFi solution – is now available in a 3G, edge and WiFi version, thus allowing users to make VoIP calls over AT&T’s cellular data network. Importantly this VoIP over data connection for iPhone/iPod -- which is an addition the company’s “Vippie” (sort of like a cross between VoIP and hippie) line of VoIP solutions -- has been authorized on the Apple Store. The company claims this is “one of the first cellular software packages in the market to work across all networks.”

Just like with Voiceserve’s Vippie Mobile Dialer for Symbian (Nokia, Motorola (News - Alert), Samsung, Sony, etc.), Windows and Android phones, the VoipSwitch iPhone dialer will offer the same cellular features to which users have become accustomed, such as SMS, conference call, call waiting, voice mail and call forwarding.

“Voiceserve has developed a simple module, which is downloadable onto most mobile phone units,” the company states in a release. “A mobile dialer may be used by companies hoping to reduce operational costs or by individuals who simply want to save money on their monthly cell phone bill. Once the dialer has been downloaded onto the unit, the phone has the capacity to make a call using either 3G, EDGE or WiFi connection, thus reducing the costs dramatically.”

Michael Bibelman, Voiceserve’s CEO, explained that up until recently Voiceserve has been mostly focused on delivering services to Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Service Providers (ITSPs) in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

“Going forward our company is poised for material revenue acceleration as we quickly expand our geographic reach into the United States and Latin America, while simultaneously adding to our product line of modules, such as cellular dialers,” he said. “The introduction of our Symbian (News - Alert) Mobile dialer in early 2009, enabled our company to experience over a 50 percent increase in business with our customer base at that time as well as bring in new customers. With the addition of the iPhone and soon Blackberry modules, we anticipate great interest from our current customers, as well as an opportunity to attract many new clients.”

VoipSwitch, one of three divisions of Voiceserve, offers a variety of services including wholesale VoIP termination, device to phone technology, personal computer to phone/Web to phone features, calling cards, short message service (SMS)/ automatic number identification (ANI)/personal identification number (PIN) /device identifier (DID)/WEB callback, DIDs' mapping and call shops.
