ITEXPO East 2010: iotum Intros Open Beta Program
By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Reportedly, iotum capitalized on the exposure provided by ITEXPO East to announce an open beta program through which customers can access their highly interactive Calliflower conference calls by way of Skype.
Applying a social-networking-style visual interface to the task of conferencing and collaboration, Calliflower can now be reached from any Skype-enabled PC or phone as well as from traditional PSTN phones.
Technology Marketing Corporation's ITEXPO (News - Alert) East show, which took place at the Miami Beach Convention Center, ended today.
Before this availability, participants could only dial into Calliflower conferences through PSTN access numbers, which could incur local charges. When calling in regions or countries where no such access numbers are available, customers would incur large long-distance and even international charges, or use up Skype (News - Alert)-out minutes calling access numbers overseas.
Callers can now access Calliflower through a Skype ID – CalliflowerSkype – or through a Web button in the Calliflower UI, overcoming this disadvantage.

“We’ve had many requests from potential Calliflower customers who had no local access numbers, especially from parts of Africa, India, China and the Middle East,” Alec Saunders (News - Alert), iotum CEO, said in a statement. “Now, as long as they have Skype, that doesn’t matter anymore.”
Users also gain better audio quality as a result of direct Skype access. In addition, users will enjoy access to all the visual information, documents and presentations that are shared through Calliflower’s interactive dashboard. Such tools help to improve understanding on international conference calls.
Calliflower is available on PC, Mac and iPhone and is designed to make organizing and participating in multi-party calls simple and interactive. The application allows participants to see the status of other callers and raise hands to request the floor. It also provides interactive chat, document sharing, intuitive conference controls, call recording, invitations and reminders, integration with calendars and more.
