Net Optics Adds Modules to Monitoring Access Platform to Improve Performance of Mission Critical Systems

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

A supplier of smart network monitoring access technologies with an international footprint, Net Optics (News - Alert), recently announced that it would be adding two new products to its existing monitoring access platform (MAP).

According to a press release, the two new offerings, the iBypass HD and the iLink Agg gigabit link aggregator, have been introduced to the MAP with a view to enhance performance levels of mission critical systems and applications and also to ensure hedging of business risks and enabling business continuity.

With the mass proliferation of IP voice, video and data traffic, many enterprises are bringing out private clouds to sustain a varied user ecosystem. IT organizations are also subjected to stricter service level agreements in order to reduce any detrimental effect on employee productivity and revenue generating services. An important step in this regard is to interweave an extensive MAP into the central fabric of the network. The company delivers enterprises with an intuitive MAP that brings together functions like data monitoring, aggregation and security bypass solutions along with an intelligent network Taps and smart management. By choosing to install the Net Optics MAP in the network framework helps boost network and application uptime and performance and ensures improved productivity levels for IT employees. This consequently cuts down business risk by delivering transparency of mission-critical business offerings and also increases the return on investment of pricey monitoring tools.

The first of the two launches, the iBypass HD, delivers a high port density bypass switch solution for in-line network security devices including intrusion prevention systems (IPS) and firewalls. This product can prop up to eight network components and allows each segment to operate independently to preserve link protection. Individual and multi-part IPS devices can be connected, managed and deleted without it impacting flow of traffic between links or the operation of the other segments. Bypass switches can be coupled to create a high-availability configuration in which one device acts as auto backup to the other. The bypass switches incorporate Net Optics Heartbeat technology which proactively tracks the strength of the linked network appliance. It sustains network traffic flow and business continuity by automatically routing traffic to responsive IPS devices only. IPS traffic is re-routed once connections are established again. A Power-loss fail-open feature ensures that traffic will continue to flow even in the event of a power outage. The product has been priced from $9,500.

The iLink Agg is touted to be the industry’s highest port density one gigabit link aggregator which will ensure a suite of monitoring tools to be applied to up to eight network links or 16 span ports with fully customizable port mapping. It also allows dynamic configuration because monitor ports can be substituted for extra monitor ports. The fiber can be split and used for both network and monitor connection. Other features like simple port mapping, SSH security, role-based access, RADIUS and TACACS+ authentication and authorization, RMON traffic statistics, and remote software upgrades have also been included. Pricing starts from $8,500.
