Cedar Point Announces Next-Generation Platform for Simpler, Cost-Effective PacketCable 2.0 Deployments

By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor

Cedar Point Communications, a provider of integrated VoIP switching technologies for service providers, announced the launch of a next-generation solution that will help cable system operators and network service providers to harness the benefits of PacketCable 2.0 and IP Multimedia Subsystem architectures for carrier-class residential and business communications services.

The solution leverages industry standard Web 2.0 tools and applications for rapid deployment of multimedia communications services and includes the new SafariFusion Application Platform (AP) and two initial applications, the SafariFusion Residential Communication Application for residential services, and the SafariFusion Registration and Routing Application (RRA) to simplify network registration, routing and service roaming.

Cedar Point also introduced new functionality for the company’s existing SAFARI C3 (News - Alert) multimedia switching system that enables seamless migration to PC 2.0/IMS architectures while providing investment protection for existing NCS and SIP endpoints.

With the new solution, service providers can reduce the number and complexity of network elements, providing simpler, more cost-effective deployment of PC 2.0/IMS services. Also, Cedar Point (News - Alert) offers high degrees of flexibility, enabling SafariFusion to function in a multi-vendor configuration, or as part of a total Cedar Point solution.

Mark Tubinis, CTO for Cedar Point Communications (News - Alert), said: “While operators are eager to provide the fused services that PacketCable 2.0 and IMS enables, the cost and complexity of creating the necessary infrastructure are often daunting.”

“Our goal has been to combine network elements, simplify application development and leverage the capabilities of existing equipment, all in an effort to make it cost efficient for operators to deploy high-quality next-generation services,” said Tubinis. “The end result is Cedar Point helps deliver fused services which create an integrated digital lifestyle.”

SafariFusion AP allows operators to offer a rich user experience that fuses voice, video and data services. The Cedar Point PC 2.0/IMS approach also leverages core capabilities of the company’s SAFARI C3 Multimedia Switching System, to provide operators with the ability to simultaneously support NCS, SIP and IMS endpoints and allow for use of PC 2.0/IMS applications by legacy subscribers. The Media Gateway (News - Alert) Control Function (MGCF), Media Resource Function Controller (MRFC), and Access Gateway Control Function (AGCF) allow operators to overlay PC 2.0/IMS networks on top of existing SAFARI C3 deployments without disturbing the legacy network-based call signaling (NCS) endpoints.
“The native capabilities that were engineered into SAFARI C3 from the beginning have enabled our customers to keep ahead of new developments in communications services,” said Tubinis. “We believe the combination of our suite of PacketCable 2.0 and IMS services and existing SAFARI C3 functionality will allow operators of all sizes to migrate quickly to the next generation of fused communication services.”
