By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributor

According to a survey by YouGov omnibus, a full-service research company, eighteen percent of adults in the U.K. using mobile phones will be opting for a mobile VoIP service offered by their mobile phone operator while 11 percent of people who have already downloaded a VoIP application onto their mobile phone use it daily.

The survey polled 2,255 adults in the U.K. and was commissioned by Kineto Wireless, Inc., the supplier of solutions that enable delivery of mobile services over broadband.

Kineto enables mobile operators to embrace the cost and performance advantages of fixed (DSL, cable,) and mobile (Long-term evolution or LTE (News - Alert)) broadband access networks.

The company also provides standards-based software and services to wireless infrastructure and device vendors to enable the development of products compatible with the latest 3GPP fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) and voice-over-LTE standards.

According to the report, 39 percent of those who downloaded a mobile VoIP application use it for low-cost international calling and 19 percent use it to bypass international roaming charges when traveling.

The study also shows that 21 percent of 18-24 year olds use their VoIP application on their mobile phone daily compared to a national average of 11 percent.
Among the respondents, 84 percent also said they have downloaded a mobile VoIP application and selected Skype (News - Alert).

“Mobile VoIP applications are becoming increasingly important to mobile phone users and the market is growing,” said Steve Shaw, vice president of corporate marketing with Kineto Wireless (News - Alert). “These results show us how people are using mobile VoIP applications, and operators have the opportunity to drive new service offers based on growing consumer demand.”
