AMD Introduces High-End 3D Graphics Card

By Vivek Naik, TMCnet Contributor

Advanced Micro Devices (News - Alert), more famously known as AMD, reportedly announced the introduction of its latest product, the ATI FirePro V8750 3D workstation graphics accelerator, which is created to help high-end graphic users such as engineering designers, digital content creation experts, virtual reality creators, and oil and gas professionals to work at the speed of thought.

“Digital content creation and high-end CAD users have been held hostage to high-priced solutions for advanced rendering,” said Janet Matsuda, senior director at AMD (News - Alert) Professional Graphics. “The ATI FirePro V8750 3D workstation graphics accelerator delivers unparalleled performance and two GB of frame buffer memory for less than $1,800 MSRP. Creative and engineering professionals can now afford the powerful graphics they deserve.”

The company says that ATI FirePro V8750 3D workstation graphics accelerator – where ATI represents Array Technologies Incorporated, which is a company that AMD acquired in 2006 – delivers 800 shader engines with a very high memory bandwidth of more than 115GBps throughput rate, and has an intelligent graphics allocator program that selectively and adaptively delivers relevant information to target pixels via its ATI Stream Technology that optimizes the computational capabilities of the central processing unit and graphics processing unit.

“We’re amazed at the performance boost to our already fast MachStudio Pro real-time 3D workflow and rendering product with the new ATI FirePro V8750 3D workstation graphics accelerator,” said David Koenig, CEO of StudioGPU. “Powered by the new ATI FirePro workstation graphics accelerator, the MachStudio Pro non-linear real-time 3D finishing workflow enables design firms and 3D artists everywhere to power through big, complex projects amazingly fast.

Officials at the company claim that UG NX4 software from Siemens PLM performs up to 56 percent faster and Autodesk (News - Alert) 3ds Max OGL runs 118 percent faster than its closest competitive device, and one of its main features is the 2GB of GDDR5 frame buffer memory.

Other features include low power consumption, two DisplayPort outputs, one Dual Link enabled digital video interactive output and one stereo sync output that allow users to experience extremely high detail graphics on two separate screens. For users that require the same output on four screens, two cards have to be plugged in to the host computer.

“Thanks to the ATI graphic accelerators, small- and mid-size studios can now work at the speed of thought to streamline workflow in a way that was impossible for the largest and most fully equipped production facilities as little as a year ago,” said Koenig.

At the lower end of the price tag (News - Alert) scale, AMD introduced the ATI Radeon HD 4830 graphics card that is priced at less than $150 and presents gamers with more affordable access to ATI Radeon HD 4800 series performance.
