Speakeasy Offering Free Starbucks Coffee to Get Businesses to Switch to VoIP

By Patrick Barnard, Group Managing Editor, TMCnet

Speakeasy (News - Alert), a Best Buy company offering Internet phone service, has launched a new promotion where it is offering a Starbuck's gift card to business customers who fax in their phone bill to determine how much they can save by switching to VoIP.

The tagline for this clever campaign is “cut your phone bill - not your morning coffee.”

In other words, maybe you can afford to keep drinking Starbucks if you switch from traditional phone service to Speakeasy’s hosted VoIP service. After all, the company claims you can save up to 45 percent on your phone bill.

“It’s no secret that businesses are trying to find ways to cut back on spending, but many are often reluctant to make any major changes, so they start by cutting out the little things, like free coffee for their employees,” said Bruce Chatterley (News - Alert), Speakeasy CEO, in a press release. "What they don't realize is how much money they could save just by switching to voice over IP services -- up to 45 percent -- which would allow them to keep the little things that matter."

Like that extra jolt of caffeine in the morning. You’ll need it now that they’ve laid off half the people in your department.

In conjunction with the promotion the company has published a set of “top five myths” about Internet phone service, including “it's not really going to save much money;”  “it's too much of a hassle to set up and manage;” “call clarity is inferior to traditional phone quality;” “the technology is still too new;” and “VoIP is just a large business solution and is not necessary for SMBs.” All things that readers of TMCnet, of course, know aren’t true.

Speakeasy made news in March when it announced that it had expanded its SIP-based voice and data integration capability. With the expansion – part of the company’s “Integrated Voice” service, Speakeasy says it can provide combined voice and data service over direct SIP trunks, in addition to its existing service over analog and digital lines. That means businesses can now use Speakeasy’s hosted VoIP service with their IP PBXs.
