Vopium Launches Free Mobile VoIP Application on BlackBerry App World

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Vopium, international mobile communications company announced the launch of its free application on BlackBerry (News - Alert) App World. This is a mobile VoIP application which enables consumers and businesses to benefit from free and heavily-discounted communication services worldwide.

The new technology utilizes 3G, GSM, Wi-Fi and GPRS networks and not just Wi-Fi hotspots. Vopium (News - Alert) will automatically re-route international calls through the cheapest route helping subscribers save a lot of money.

The Vopium application on BlackBerry App World seamlessly integrates with the address book on the phone. It is capable of intelligently detecting international calls and re-routes them without any user input. Although the cheapest route is used to route international calls the call quality is in no way compromised.

This new launch follows the launch of an iPhone application. These make Vopium compatible with over 500 devices across all operating systems including Windows Mobile, Symbian (News - Alert) and Java.

The Vopium application will be available from today. Subscribers who download and register for Vopium from BlackBerry’s App World will receive 30 minutes of free calls and 30 text messages, said the company.

“Whilst consumers and businesses alike are looking to save money where they can, they don’t want to compromise on quality. Vopium is dedicated to helping friends, families and businesses communicate, regardless of where they are in the world, providing the same high level of call quality they’re used to receiving with their mobile operators,” said Vopium CEO, Tanveer Sharif.

Sharif added, “Vopium on BlackBerry App World will enable the millions of BlackBerry users to significantly cut their international call costs whether these are for business or pleasure.”

Vopium makes international calls cheap by re-routing them as local calls to a Vopium gateway and then via global traffic as ordinary voice traffic to maintain voice quality. 90 percent savings can be experienced while making international calls with Vopium compared to traditional carrier rates.

Wi-Fi users can also call each other around the world for free. Users get to keep their own mobile number and SIM card and also maintain their numeric identity while making calls. When calling from their home country users will incur a local rate from their operator. Also a roaming charge will be applied by the subscriber’s operator when calling from abroad.

Vopium is a carrier-grade mobile telephony service which uses intelligent routing and connection technology to automatically and seamlessly deliver low cost connections for international calls.
