TMCnet VoIP Week In Review

Welcome to the latest edition of the TMCnet VoIP Week In Review featuring the top headlines in the VoIP industry this past week.
 
Embedded solutions provider RadiSys Corporation announced this week new voice quality enhancement features for their RadiSys (News - Alert) Convedia Media Server in a bid to improve voice quality in VoIP conferencing systems while also reducing costs.

 
With the latest features, RadiSys Convedia media servers make it possible for CSPs and their VoIP application development partners to “address both IP media processing and VoIP quality improvements in a single network element.”
 
“Now that VoIP technology deployment has moved beyond early adoption to large production deployments, maintaining VoIP audio quality in large-scale networks has become a major focus among conferencing service providers,” said Marc Beattie, managing partner, Wainhouse Research.
 
Polycom (News - Alert) announced this week that Versature, a Canada-based provider of hosted PBX (News - Alert) services has integrated their VVX 1500 Media Phone into their offering.

“Many of our customers have expressed the desire to be able to hold video conferences as a means of communicating more effectively with remote offices while minimizing their carbon footprint,” said Paul Emond, Versature’s president. “Video conferencing can also be a powerful tool for businesses to strengthen relationships with key partners and customers.”

Polycom officials also made headlines this week when they announced expectations that the telepresence market in Latin America will grow 70 percent this year to about $17.8 million.
In other VoIP-related research this week, Telecompaper said Dutch consumer VoIP connections were up 4.4 percent in the forth quarter. This increase allowed the number of connections to surpass the three-million customer mark for the first time and represented an 18.4 year-over- year growth.
 
VoIP subscribers also climbed in South Korea according to this TMCnet report. With more than 3 million VoIP subscribers, South Korean VoIP subscribers now represent about 12 percent of all fixed-line operators.
 
Virtual office solutions provider FreedomVOICE Systems was also presented with a 2008 Product of the Year Award from Unified Communications magazine for its Hosted VoIP PBX product, FreedomIQ,
