Candela Tests APconnection's NetEqualizer Solution
By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor
Lafayette, Colorado-based APconnections, a provider of plug-and-play bandwidth shaping products, reportedly revealed the test results from an independent laboratory of Candela Technologies, a company that specializes in emulating network traffic including VoIP and virtual local area networks.
The test results by Candela show that APconnections’ one-Gigabit NetEqualizer, which is a 1-gigabit carrier-class Internet traffic shaping solution, performs well under independent load testing.
APconnections said that its ‘NetEqualizer’ (News - Alert) is primarily a plug-and-play bandwidth control and WAN/Internet optimization appliance. Featuring “behavior shaping” technology, the appliance offers priority to latency-sensitive applications such as VoIP and e-mail. All these functionalities are done by the appliance automatically and dynamically, while improving on other bandwidth shaping technology available. The appliance is not only flexible but scalable as well, says company.
According to Ben Greear, lead engineer of Candela Technologies, APconnections has been coming to the company for years to put extreme realistic loads on equipment.

“We used our LANforge traffic generator to hit the latest NetEqualizer (pictured right) release with over 1.2 million simulated user data streams within a 60 second window,” Greear said. “The NetEqualizer shrugged off the abuse and continued to pass in excess of 800Mbps of bi-directional traffic. The NetEqualizer successfully ran this torture test for a full 24 hours without a hiccup.”
Candela’s LANforge emulates networks by connecting virtual routers and other virtual network elements with links, which modify bandwidth, latency, packet loss and corruption. The emulator actually tests the behavior of test devices that sit on either side of an impaired network.
Eli Riles, vice president of technology of APconnections, said, “With our higher-end shaping solutions, we cannot afford a problem in the field.”
Last month, as TMCnet reported, APconnections had added 1-gigabit enhancement to its NetEqualizer traffic shaper.
APconnections is a company that develops appliances that manages traffic shaping. Its NetEqualizer product family optimizes critical network bandwidth resources for organizations that purchases bandwidth in bulk and then redistributes or resells that bandwidth, says company.
