August 20, 2008

About 75 percent of U.S. and Canadian small and mid-sized organizations with 20 to 499 employees still have separate voice and data networks, CompTIA (News - Alert) says.

But 39 percent of Canadian firms and 61 percent of U.S. firms plan to invest in converged solutions within the next three years.

About 77 percent of SMEs in the United Kingdom and 71 percent of firms in Germany have separate voice and data networks and about 60 percent of them plan to invest in converged solutions within the next three years, CompTIA says.

Just 38 percent of SMEs in Canada and 41 percent in United States manage and support their networks internally and most of these firms have just a single dedicated employee for both information technology and telecom services.

In the United Kingdom and Germany, 49 percent and 58 percent respectively, manage, maintain and support their communication and IT services internally.

The top challenges that firms face with respect to their current networks and solutions are high costs, usage complexity, unreliable performance, and difficulty in integrating and converging with existing communication devices, CompTIA says.
