Industry Report Finds Budgets for Web Content Management Initiatives On The Rise In 2009
SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--
In these tough economic times, organizations are turning to the web and interactive media to drive more business, according to a new study from Aberdeen Group. Entitled, Maximize Business Results Online: How Web Content Management Technology is Transforming Digital Marketing, the study was underwritten in part by Sitecore, the leading provider of .NET Web Content Management System (CMS) software, and is based on survey data from 170 organizations. The research reveals that organizations consider optimizing online content a high priority and budgets for Web Content Management (WCM) initiatives are increasing. The report demonstrates the value of combining organizational capabilities and technologies, such as web analytics, dynamic content delivery, and multi-variant testing tools, to positively affect return on marketing investments and annual revenue.
"We have seen a significant increase in customer adoption of the strategies and findings noted in the report over the last several months, certainly bucking the trend during this current economic environment," said Darren Guarnaccia, VP Product Marketing, Sitecore. "This data is another proof point that organizations view effective web content management strategies as a strategic investment that is critical in meeting their business objectives. Engaging customers, increasing site traffic and increased ROI on marketing campaigns are goals that are now achievable."
"Best-in-Class use demonstrates the true value of WCM technology," said Ian Michiels, Research Director at Aberdeen and author of the study. "The research demonstrates that organizations with the highest performance were more likely to use WCM technology and, more importantly, they were more likely to leverage more capabilities in WCM technologies."
The study benchmarks organizational performance from survey participants to isolate best practices in web content management and online execution. Survey respondents overwhelmingly indicating that the top two marketing channels used to reach customers include the website (60%) and email marketing (47%). With 56% of respondents indicating managing web content was a high priority in 2009. Improving the customer experience was noted as a top business challenge driving the adoption and use of web content management, followed by increasing website traffic and ROI by improving the productivity and processes surrounding web properties.
