Look-Look Magazine Announces New Issue and National Tour: First International Publication Showcasing the Work of Young Artists and Writers
NEW YORK, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Look-Look, with title sponsor Virgin Mobile USA, launches its second issue of the magazine for young photographers, writers, and artists. Look-Look is taking the art and music of young people to new levels with the 14-city Youth Invasion Tour, showcasing a rapidly growing online community of artists, as well as through the creation of the Look-Look School of Visual Arts Summer Residency Program.
Founded in 2003 by youth culture gurus DeeDee Gordon and Sharon Lee, Look- Look is the nation's only magazine dedicated to showcasing the best artistic and literary work of young people. The biannual magazine's content is composed entirely of uncensored art, photography and writing created by amateurs between the ages of 14 and 30. The magazine's creative directors are Lisa Eisner and Roman Alonso, founders of Greybull Press, and frequent contributors to the New York Times. The publication's editor is writer Cat Doran, best known for her work for Gucci and Calvin Klein.
Virgin Mobile USA and Sony Pictures will jointly underwrite the Youth Invasion Tour, commencing April 20th, with stops in 14 cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, Tuscon, Nashville, Washington DC, Brooklyn, Austin and Denton Texas. This unique cultural event will raise awareness of art and music by young people in each city. An Airstream trailer outfitted with an art exhibition and an art station will allow young people to view the work of their peers, while creating and contributing their own art for publication in the magazine. A concert in each city will showcase Electrocute, the outrageous cult bubblegum pop girl group duo, and Hawnay Troof, as well as local acts. Tickets for each of the performances will cost no more than $5.
Look-Look will donate net profits as one-time-per-person grants for young artists. Additionally, they have created 12 residency fellowships at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, to be held in the summer of 2004. Residencies will be awarded as grants sponsored by Virgin Mobile USA, SVA, and the Look-Look Arts Foundation, and will be completely free of charge to recipients.
The magazine can be found throughout the U.S. in Barnes & Noble and Borders among others. Subscriptions are also available online through Amazon.com.
